As the daughter of educators, Emily McCann learned the power of a growth mindset early on in life. As CEO of Citizen Schools, McCann challenges herself and her dedicated team to understand the specific ways that achievement gaps affect the students who participate in Citizen Schools’ programs. 

While McCann brings focused attention to ensuring students benefit from hands-on learning with the kind of mentors who also serve as advocates, her greatest joy comes from helping kids see themselves as problem solvers in their own communities and helping them see their own worthiness. Her insatiable curiosity for what other people need drives her to ask questions, look for connections, and find meaning by staying in motion.
